Sweet and Sour Sauce

A oldie but a goodie! Sensational with meat dishes, special fried rice, crispy spring rolls, meatballs and dumplings. A particular Chinese favourite with the kids!

  • 1 spring onion
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger, 1 cm, peeled
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 3 tbs brown sugar
  • 1 tbs tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp corn flour
  • 2 tbs water



  1. Place all the ingredients (except the corn flour and water) into the bowl of your Russell Hobbs Food Processor and process to a fine paste.
  2. Place the mix into a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Dissolve the corn flour into the water and pour into the hot sauce.  Stir until thick and glossy, about 1 minute.
  4. Serve hot over meat or vegetables or serve cold as a condiment for spring rolls, dumplings or fried rice.

TIP:  This sauce will keep in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
